An illustration of an Aesop's fable to print and color.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Free Coloring Page

It was a very difficult fable to illustrate and took several days to get it organized to tell the point of the fable and still be something that gives young artists opportunities to color in. The story is classic; the shepherd boy had cried wolf so many times the men of the village no longer paid attention, so when a wolf appears, no one comes to his aid.   In my illustration, I have the men walking back to the village, covering their ears, and the wolf menacingly looking over the sheep pen wall while the sheep cower around the shepherd who is vainly calling for help. I did not want it to look too terrible so as not to disturb young minds.

There are a lot of opportunities for young artist to be creative with this picture. There elements of landscape and drama. The sheep pen wall can be gray, brown or sandstone red, the landscape can be full of greens, the village can have red roofs, the men can have all kinds of colors on their clothing and the wolf can be gray or black.

Aesop's Fable Coloring Page, The Milk Maid, Don't Count Your Eggs Before They Hatch

Print and color Aesop's Fable Page. Parents, teachers, and homeschool families will find many ways to use this printable coloring picture. It can be used in class or at home, or as part of an after-school club.

The picture illustrates Aesop's Fable of the Milkmaid, who planned to sell her milk and buy eggs she hoped to hatch and raise the chickens to sell. As she fantasized about how she would spend her profits. She imagined flaunting a new dress in front of the town girls but being caught up in the image, she tossed her head as she would when wearing her dress. Of course, the milk she was carrying on her head fell, and she lost it all. So the moral is don't count your chickens before they hatch.

The picture has a lot of places where a young artist could get creative.

I had to draw it over four times before I got it right. I may have overdone the landscape a bit. I wanted it to have a Mediterranean scene.

This is helpful for parents and teachers to use in teaching the lesson of Aesop's fable. It could be used as a classroom activity or as a take-home project.

There are many areas for creative coloring on this page. The tortoise can be green or brown or a combination. The road can be clay, brown, red or grey. The grasses and trees can be various hues of green. There are some flowers that can be used to add color. The distant horizon can be purple and the hare can be brown or just leave him white. The finish banner can be pink if the road is blue or gray and it will stand out. If the road is clay or brown then do the banner in a light blue.
I hope you have as much fun coloring it as I had in drawing it.
