ABOUT ISSUE 190

The match the difference activity (in the subscriber’s issue) uses a picture of a roman soldier. I know the attached passage is about a centurion, but I didn’t have time to create two pictures of a centurion, so I used a picture I drew in the past for an art lesson. The point is to get kids to read the bible anyway, so I hope you will forgive the slightly off-themed art. 

The code breaker puzzle (in the subscriber’s version) uses different arrows for the code; it looks very dramatic. The verse is short, so I gave six clues, three are very helpful, but three are not too helpful on purpose. I hope it is fun. 

There are two verses about not being afraid and three about prayer. There are several scriptures about the Gospel and at least two about God’s Word.

ABOUT ISSUE 188

There are many favorite scriptures, such as 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 in a word search and Luke 1:37 in a coloring page. One of the invitations to come to Christ, Matthew 11:28-30, is used in the crossword puzzle. The explorer’s Challenge uses 1 Peter 3:15. Many more favorites fill out this week’s mini-magazine. 

I am delighted with how the word puzzles turned out. My favorite puzzle is the Code-breaker. I substituted shapes for the letters. It looks like it will be too challenging, but I gave good clues, and the kids will master it quickly.

ABOUT ISSUE 187

This issue has a lot of great activities for kids of all ages, and as always, every activity puzzle and coloring picture focuses on a Bible verse.

There are many great scriptures, some of which we only see in a children's ministry and a few we don't. 

My favorite is the Code-breaker puzzle (In the subscriber's version). It uses a substitution code, replacing the letters with symbols and shapes. I gave two good clues and three "Not so good clues," but it is enough for anyone to break the code. 

I worked on the "find the difference" puzzle for a long time (in the subscriber's version). It is the woman who touched the edge of Jesus' garment and received healing. I traced it many times, then after downloading it to the computer, I continued to edit it in paint before I was satisfied with the drawing. There are six differences between the two pictures of the woman.

The coloring page for the cover turned out nicely. It is not a familiar verse but a wonderful reminder of God's greatness. 

A week is not enough time to create one of these mini-magazines. And I feel some of the word puzzles this week could have used a little more time to develop better clues. I used a thesaurus to find words, and some of the words may be college-level.

ABOUT ISSUE 186

This issue has a lot of great activities for kids of all ages, and as always, every activity puzzle and coloring picture focuses on a Bible verse.

There are many great scriptures, some of which we do not usually see in a children's ministry. 

The Find The Difference activity (in the subscriber's version) was fun for me to draw. It is Martha carrying things for serving. I got carried away and did seven instead of making six differences for you to find. I hope you enjoy it. 

The cover coloring page turned out beautifully. I know some people are getting tired of the flowers, but it worked out in this picture. The verse is Isaiah 26:12. There are many great scriptures in Isaiah. This one has layers of things for you to ponder.

I got a little lazy with the code breaker (in the subscriber's version), but sometimes it is good to give you an easy one. It is a basic "slip code." It is so simple that the three clues are two too many!

I am delighted with each word puzzles, like the shape sort and the grid puzzle. They keep you looking at the verse to do the puzzle. Creating these are fun for me because, as a creative, it stretches me to think in straight lines.

The Explorer's Challenge activity is usually straightforward, like drawing circles around certain words and a box around others. The verse is Revelation 22:13 and short, so to make up the Let's Talk about it question is intended to interpret it on their level. It is still open-ended. 

There are three coloring pictures (three in the subscriber's version and two in the free version), a maze puzzle, word search puzzles, this week's read the Bible bookmark with passages to read, a memory verse craft, and more. I wish I could do more, but there are only so many hours in the week, and I barely get these done every week as it is. 

As always, most of the activities have opened ended questions. I hope you can have spiritual discussions with the kids.

ABOUT ISSUE 185

This issue has a lot of great activities for kids of all ages, and as always, every activity puzzle and coloring picture focuses on a Bible verse.

There are many great scriptures, some of which we do not usually see in a children's ministry. 

Acts 4:12, Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 18:10, Deuteronomy 7:9, Habakkuk 2:14, Psalm 46:10, Psalm 121:1-2, Hebrews 13:16, Isaiah 40:31, Ezekiel 36:26, Proverbs 3:5-6, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Isaiah 26:3, 1 Samuel 12:24, Ephesians 3:20-21, Lamentations 5:19, Matthew 2:1-12.

I am pleased with the Find The Difference activity. It is the gifts that the wise men brought. I had to trace it several times. I hope that you can find the six differences between the two pictures. 

I accidentally combined the verses from two translations for one of the word search puzzles. The meaning is the same. It was two verses, one was from an older version, and the other was from a newer version. I saw my mistake after I spent many hours creating the puzzle. So I kept it as it was and referenced it as paraphrased.

ABOUT MY ART

I did this as a page for my children's Bible verse activity magazine. I traced the flowers about three times before they looked right. After tracing the art, I downloaded it to my computer, cleaned it up, and made more changes.  I used the computer to create the letters.

COLOR THE PICTURE

This picture can be beautiful when you color it. Use fine-tipped markers or colored pencils to get into the more delicate areas. My favorite coloring pencils are Prismacolor pencils because they are brilliant and blend well. You can find them at Michaels or Hobby Lobby stores. You can usually find coupons for good discounts. 

The flowers can be lots of different colors.

I like to do the frame in a contrasting color.

Try to use a color that is not too black for the letters. 

I like to do the background in a pale color.
