ABOUT ISSUE 168
In this issue, there is something for everyone.
In this issue are some scriptures that point us to Christ. Two verses reference the famous "I am" Statements of our Lord. Other verses call us to holy living, and a few are about discipleship.
Some of the coloring pictures are perfect for those who like tight spaces, and others have open areas for younger fingers to fill in.
This week's dot-to-dot activity is elementary; it is more of tracing the dots to form the letters in the Bible verse.
The explorer's challenge is a mini-bible study. Even though it only tasks you to draw a box around specific words, circle others, and draw stars over another, it took a surprising amount of thought since I want to create a fun way to meditate on God's word.
Every week I create a new code for the code breaker (found in the subscriber's version). This week I used a different mix of icons. The five clues are more than enough for anyone to crack the code. The verse is unfamiliar to most of us, so you can't just rely on your scripture memory work.
Some word puzzles are designed around solving the missing word that finishes a sentence. It takes a lot of thought to look at a verse, develop a sentence that relates to it, and back engineer the puzzle to accomplish that task. At the same time, I want to be mindful that the sentence is correct with a fundamental understanding of the meaning of that scripture and basic Christian doctrine. My challenge was with the 1 Timothy 6:17-19 shape sort puzzle (in the subscriber's version) and the Psalm 102:25-27 grid puzzle. But they turned out very nice.
The memory verse continues the series for John 1.
Most of the activities have open-ended discussion questions. I spend a lot of time on these and sometimes rewrite them several times. I hope they give you fresh topics to talk to your kids about when you have class or family time.
