ABOUT ISSUE 134

It seems that I spend all of my free time creating these BIBLE TIME FUN WEEKLY activity booklets for you. But I am glad to do it because I believe in God's Word; I believe that it is living and has the power to change lives and give new life.

I enjoyed writing this week's Bible quiz about eagles in the Bible. I was surprised at how many scriptures spoke about eagles in one way or another. 

My favorite is the codebreaker puzzle which uses symbols instead of letters.  If you can break the code, you will read one of the most worshipful passages.  

The most challenging puzzle to create was the word search puzzle just because I do them by hand, and they take a lot of work and then a lot of editing because some random words occur. I have to be diligent to hunt them down and take them out. 

I could use software or websites that do this but have not found any that fit the particular size that I am working in.

Issue 134 contains the following activities and scriptures:

A quiz about eagles in the Bible and a little coloring picture of an eagle (subscribers version).

A coloring page with Psalm 56:8 (subscribers version). 

The shape sort puzzle uses Psalm 84:10-11 (subscribers version).

The code breaker uses Psalm 57:9 (subscribers version).

The Word Search uses Psalm 27:4

The second coloring picture is for John 12:46.

The crossword puzzle uses Luke 16:13 (it is one of the hard sayings of our Lord).

Explorer's Challenge (Mini Bible Study) is for 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

The scrambler uses 1Timothy 1:15.

The find the hidden letters puzzle uses Galatians 6:9.

The second word search uses Numbers 6:24.

The maze uses Psalm 94:9

The drop letter puzzle uses Proverbs 14:23.

The memory verse craft uses Psalm 27:8.

This edition is an excellent issue with lots of beautiful scriptures.

I kept changing up the Bible passages as I worked through this issue. I wanted to keep bringing to you fresh material that was exciting and interesting.

One of my favorite pieces is the Psalm 50:1 coloring page. It has a landscape with the mountains in the background and the scripture in the front. 

I hope that I didn't make the code breaker too tricky. I tried to give lots of clues but not too many.

ABOUT ISSUE 132

This issue has a lot of fun things to do and challenge your brain while engaging in God's Holy Word. I hope you can use this in your church or Bible club, like Awanas, Upwards, or Good News Club. 

There are many powerful scriptures and fun activities on this issue.  I hope they help kids of all ages discover that the Bible is unique, amazing, incredible, and fun. 

I started by spending over 2 hours looking up scriptures for this issue, and I am amazed that there seems to be no end to inspirational passages in God's Holy Word! The hard part is not to find verses for the activities but to choose from among so many.

I am pleased with the "Find the Difference Puzzle" (Subscribers version) where I drew two Bible time boats and made eight slight changes between the two. There is a quiz with six Bible questions about different boat stories in the Bible. I hope you can get them right!

One of the most complex puzzles to create was the hidden letter puzzle. The letters for a particular word from the Proverbs verse are scattered among 75 other random letters. The game is to find the selected letters. 

I am thrilled with how the coloring pictures turned out. I copied some parts from a  previous coloring page project a few years ago and made a few dozen minor changes to freshen it up. I tried to make the scripture letters stand out by dimming the background.

This is a free printable coloring page for  Psalm 103:8.

This is a favorite scripture. I chose the Contemporary English Version because it seemed straightforward and direct.  It is such a great scripture of Comfort and hope in the character of God.

COLOR THE PICTURE

This picture can be beautiful when you color it. Use fine-tipped markers or colored pencils, and then you can get into the more delicate areas. My favorite coloring pencils are Prismacolor pencils because they are so brilliant and blend so well. You can find them at Michaels or Hobby Lobby stores. You can usually find coupons for good discounts. 

There are lots of flowers to color in. 

The ribbon can be something different than the flower colors. 

The letters can be colored in; I like to use something besides black for the words.

COLOR THE PICTURE

The design is simple, so you can focus on the words. 

The letters are open enough for you to be able to color them. 

I suggest that if you make the background color, the letters should all be one color, and it should not be a color used in the background.

Kids like to color this picture with crayons, but if you try fine-tipped markers or colored pencils, you will be able to get into the smaller areas. My favorite coloring pencils are Prismacolor. Prismacolor pencils can be found at Staples, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby. (I always look for coupons online.)

This week, as I was reading Psalms 27, I was impressed with how one chapter can have lots of powerful verses, so I picked a few from that chapter for this issue. I struggled with one of the scriptures. Psalm 27:10 is a little dark but has been very meaningful for me. Perhaps the Lord is preparing this issue for someone who needs that verse. I felt compelled to use it at the last minute. It is the drop word puzzle.

This issue has a lot of fun things to do and challenge your brain while engaging in God's Holy Word.

I am pleased with the two scripture coloring pages in this issue, but my favorite is the "Find The Difference" activity with the six pictures that have something different in each one. I like it because the art of the two children praying turned out nicely. Each image has something slightly different from the others. I hope you can spot them. 

The hardest thing was creating the "Find The Hidden Letters" picture; since each letter is in its text box, the computer became very slow after a while, and it was a test of my patience. But after I converted it into a JPEG and merged that into the document it was easier to manipulate.

I hope you can use this in your church or Bible club, like Awanas, or Good news club. 

SCRIPTURES

There are a lot of scriptures about discipleship in this issue. A couple of Gospel verses couple about God's word and more: it has something for everyone.

This issue has a lot of fun things to do and challenge your brain while engaging in God's Holy Word.

I have several favorites in this issue. I am pleased with the might be the coloring picture with scripture for Joshua 24:15. It has a lovely house to color in. I imagine some kids will add family members to the scene. 

The crossword is a reprise from a couple of years ago. It is for 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Doing a crossword allows you to think about the various words in the puzzle. I am thrilled with the word search puzzles, even though each one required several revisions. 

When I tested the hidden letter puzzle, I had a moment of cold sweat panic because I couldn't find one of the letters! After a few minutes, I saw it right where I had designed for it to be. How could I have missed it? It was the letter L; I wonder if you find it easier than I did.

ABOUT ISSUE 127

Issue 127 was difficult to put together, but I am delighted with how it turned out. There are so many fun things to do in this issue that I can't think of a favorite. I am excited with the "spot the difference" activity where each fish is slightly different from the others. There are 6 Bible verses about fish, and one is a false statement; I wonder how many people can tell the false from the true. The hidden letters puzzle was hard to create because the more letters I cut and pasted into the field, the more slowly the computer responded. Still, I wanted to have a lot of letters to search so it would be a fun activity and balance it with a lower level of difficulty for the younger kids.

I wanted to do a few coloring pages, such as stained glass windows, for the kids. You can have a lot of fun coloring in the shapes. I did some, and the teachers reported how much the kids enjoyed them. I was surprised.

It takes a long time to create these coloring pages for you. I am glad to do it because I love God's word, and I hope you are blessed by it. Feel free to print as many of my coloring pages as you like. 

COLOR THE PICTURE

This picture can be a lot of fun and colorful. Use fine-tipped markers or colored pencils, and then you can get into the finer areas. My favorite coloring pencils are Prismacolor pencils because they are so brilliant and blend so well. You can find them at Michaels or Hobby Lobby stores. You can usually find coupons for good discounts. The letters can be colored in; I like to use something besides black for the words.

It is a blessing for me to create these for you. I spend a lot of time just looking over, reviewing, and thinking about the activities and puzzles. I keep asking myself if they are too hard or too easy. A few are intentionally challenging for the older kids, and a few are purposefully simple for the younger ones. It all means adding something or taking something out of the puzzles and sometimes editing it several times. It takes hours to make it look nice by changing the size of fonts and spacing between lines and positions of elements. It is all a minor fix here and a little nudge there. 

I think my favorite activity in this week's bulletin is the coloring picture for Psalm 118:24, "This is the day the Lord has made" Bible verse. This picture has a lot of nice things to color like flowers, hearts, a dove, and letters to the words. 

The hardest to create was the word search for 2 Chronicles 7:14. It took three evenings to do and redo. 

I do not use a program for these word search puzzles because of price and licensing; instead, I place each letter in a grid one at a time using Microsoft word. After a while, I think I start to make mistakes, so I have to stop and come back.

This issue has a lot of variety. There are hidden letters to find, pictures to color, scrambler puzzles, a code to break, and more. 

I think my favorite this week is the "spot the difference" activity. It has six shepherds, and each has one detail that is different from the rest. The master image took a lot of tracing and sketching before I was happy with it. I like this little shepherd and think we will be seeing him again.  

I used a minimal design on one of the coloring pages because the message of Philippians 1:21 is so powerful by itself.  

I spent hours selecting the scriptures for this book. I want to keep it fresh and not reuse the same ones too often. I seek a prayerful sense that the Lord directs the ones chosen. There are two gospel verses included with the hope of presenting some part of the Good News.   

Most of the activities have open-ended questions. I spend hours thinking about these and often rewrite them a few times during the week. Please pray that teachers and parents can have Spirit-led conversations because of these questions.

THE VERSE 

Proverbs 3:5-6 is a wonderful scripture of faith and promise.  It gives us hope and promises the guidance of the Lord to those who seek Him.  It says, "Confie-toi en l'Éternel de tout ton coeur, Et ne t'appuie pas sur ta sagesse; Reconnais-le dans toutes tes voies, Et il aplanira tes sentiers." Proverbs 3:5-6

MY ART 

I made a coloring page for this verse in English for one of the children's church bulletins I make every week and thought it would be nice to use it in some language coloring pages. To create the letters to the words of the verse, I cut and paste them with the computer. It took a long time to get things to look balanced. It was a lot of work, and I am happy with how it turned out.

COLOR THE PICTURE

I like to color the background a light hue and the letters a medium-dark hue. You can color the letters blue, brown, or purple; I avoid black letters because they are boring. There are many opportunities to be creative with embellishments around the border. The background can be a lot of color, and the frame can be something to contrast.
